Filly Earns Berth After Rout At Canadian International Stakes

Track News

On Sunday October 16, 2011 Breeders Cup betting enthusiasts north of the border were able to watch a filly earn her way into the history books. During the Canadian International Stakes Race, at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario Sarah Lynx was able to decimate an all male field. As a result, MLB World Series bettors are now shifting their attention to the track as they hope to see Sarah Lynx at the Breeders Cup in a couple weeks time.

Sarah Lynx was no match for a field made up of mostly males, as she made her 22 to one odds look like an absolute steal. The Grade I Canadian International Stakes purse of $1,488,320 was the largest purse of Sarah Lynx career. Trained by the legendary bookie software trainer John Hammond in France, Sarah Lynx was able to dip and dive through the field, before she and jockey Christophe Soumillion darted to finish the line. The lightly raced four-year-old filly was able to win the race by an impressive four lengths.

Sarah Lynx was able to continue a trend for 2011, which has seen more fillies upset male fields across the globe. Her victory Sunday at the Canadian International Stakes was the first win by a filly on the course since 1988 when the legendary filly Infamy accomplished the feat.

As we noted earlier, her trainers have run Sarah Lynx sparingly this season. However, with that being said, her trainers and owners have entered her in the right races for her to qualify for future major stakes races. For instance, with the victory on Sunday, should Sarah Lynx owners decide it is what they want to do, they can qualify her for the Breeders Cup Turf race on November 5, 2011.

A Horse Betting Guide For New Bettors

Glossary

Horse racing is one of the oldest sports betting areas in the gambling industry. Literally, since man figured out how to ride a horse, another man has been betting on the horse to win a race. If you are looking to try your hand at wagering on the NFL, you should consider horse betting first, as the two sports are a lot closer then you may believe.

In both the NFL and horse racing, the bettor has the option of making one of two types of wagers, a straight or exotic bet. On a straight bet in both horse racing and the NFL, your bet is contingent on the success of one party winning an event outright or according to a number. Conversely, on the exotic wager, your goal is to make a profit off of multiple parties either within the same race or on multiple races. Here is an example of both a straight and exotic bet on the bookie software horse racing circuit.

Win – In a win bet, as the name suggests, your goal is to pick the horse that you believe will finish in first place after the race concludes. If your horse finishes in first place, you win your wager. However, if your horse finishes in second or worse, you lose your wager.

Trifecta – In a trifecta, the bettor is picking three horses to finish in first, second and third in the upcoming race. For you to win your bet, your three horses must come in the exact order you predicted when you placed the bet. If the three horses finish out of sync, then you will lose your bet. Meaning to say, if your three horses finish in reverse order from your prediction, you stand to lose your bet.

The 2009 Breeders’ Cup World Championships will be taking place this November 6th and 7th this year and everyone is getting excited for the big race.

There will be a total of 14 races spread out over two days with just under $26 million in potential winnings.

Santa Anita Park will be the venue and here are some of the early odds on the big race:

Breeders' Cup Classic: Einstein (5/1), Mine That Bird (15/1), Rip Van Winkle (5/1), Sea the Stars (2/1), Zenyatta (10/1), Summer Bird (8/1).

The mile and a quarter race will be the finale of the marathon of races but the real question is who will take it.

Zenyatta has had an outstanding season has been the other filly that’s been dominating the scene and she’ll be one to keep your eye for the Breeders’ Cup. Like Rachel Alexandra, a northbet pick last year, she’ll be looking to make a statement amongst the boys at the big event.

Conduit, last year’s Turf winner, has looked pretty good this year and that’s a horse that’s starting to find his groove. You can expect another turf with for Conduit.

Another interesting filly is Goldikova, who really showed a burst of speed we haven’t seen in a while when she destroyed the field at the Mile. Trainer Freddie Head has this in even better shape and this could really shape up as a run between the girls if she holds up her end of the bargain.

It’s hard to go against Zenyatta for now. Look for her to take the Breeders’ Cup Classic this year.

Did you make an Informed Decision at the Track on the Weekend?

Winner's Circle

Congrats to all horse race betting fans who made the informed decision on the weekend and chose…er, Informed Decision to win the Grade 3 Presque Isle Masterson at Presque Isle Downs this past Saturday. I know it’s a cheesy joke, but it’s one I simply have to make.

Informed Decision, led by jockey Julien Laparoux, was simply dominant, starting the 6 1/2 –furlong race on the outside and charging hard down the stretch to win by 2 ½ lengths. Sweet Lorena finished second followed by Flashing in third.

While Rachel Alexandra has been the filly newsmaker of the year so far, Informed Decision is threatening to steal some serious thunder late in the season. She’ll race in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint at Santa Anita on November 6. It’s unclear if she’ll run before those dates, however. Trainer Jonathan Sheppard indicated that he’d pushed Informed Decision hard in recent weeks and may want to rest her before she makes a big push in the high-profile November races.

If she does race again sooner, Sheppard indicated that it will be in the six-furlong Thoroughbred Club of America on October 10. If she races then and you like betting on horses, you should keep a close eye on her after her brilliant showing on the weekend.

PayPerHead.com launches new pricing, a new site, and a new campaign featuring Soprano's Johnny Sack

Track News

PayPerHead.com, an online sportsbook service provider for local agents, today unveiled a new campaign featuring Vince Curatola, Johnny Sack of The Sopranos fame.

The campaign leads with Vince asking "Five bucks head, that's what I wanna pay..." and the website, featuring video and voice overs by Vince, walks you through the product, the process and the competition.

"Five bucks a head is really an industry first given our level of service," a spokesman from PayPerHead.com explained. "And we very carefully and in great detail delineate on the website exactly what you get and at what price level at PayPerHead versus the other serious players, such as Bookie Buddy”.

You get a tremendous amount of price per head betting services, including not only the traditional online sportsbook but an optional casino, live poker, in game live betting, mobile betting, tools for managing players and their funds, layoff and scalp accounts, even a "sharp check." "We have the sharpest lines out there and one of the most experienced stages anywhere offshore," the spokesman said, "so if we start seeing sharp action from one of your players, we can give you a heads up. What you want to do with him is up to you."

The choice of Vince Curatola was an interesting one. "We always liked Vince's character on The Sopranos, as John "Johnny Sack" Sacramoni," the PayPerHead spokesman said. "He had a certain style, classy, but not over the top; there's a calmness and authority about him that we really admire.  He brings that serious business demeanor to PayPerHead.com, the first sportsbook-service to EVER feature any kind of celebrity in its marketing."

With post-up books like BetUS, Sportsbook.com and SportsInteraction stopping taking US players, Bodog and others struggling with "Ecom" processing problems, the street scene is heating up and players are posting daily in forums looking for a "local out." Players want the huge selection of markets, including live in-game betting, and the convenience of anytime betting online or via their mobile, but more and more say "they want to bet online but prefer to settle in cash on Monday."

Is this the future of online sports betting? It very well could be. And with firms like PayPerHead.com investing in marketing in an unprecedented way (celebs, who'd have thunk it?!) and in product (they also offer live poker, casino and in-game betting), expect to see this sector grow significantly this season.

For more information, see PayPerHead.com.
