Sports betting enthusiasts handicapping horse racing, are still talking about the Grade I 2011 Juvenile race to determine the top two – year old in the country. The race has often been used as the initial indication, of which horse or horses have the best opportunity to win the Kentucky Derby of the following season. After all, the horses in the Juvenile are running on the same course as the Kentucky Derby participants. Here is an early projection of the 2012 Kentucky Derby.

In 2012, this should be no different, as three horses that stole our hearts at the Breeders Cup Juvenile, will probably do so again during the Derby. Hansen, a 10 to one underdog shocked rivals Union Rags set at two to one odds and Creative Cause set at seven to two odds, by winning the Juvenile by two and a half lengths.

Hansen, sired by the legendary Tapit, was raced sparingly this season, as the Juvenile was only its third race of the entire year. Nevertheless, Hansen showed why it had won its previous two races, as it came from the back of the field, to cruise to victory over its rivals. Entering 2012, all eyes will be on Hansen, as the colt has the potential to be perfect heading into the Kentucky Derby.

If Hansen struggles at all, do not be surprised, if the bookie software momentum shifts to Union Rags or Creative Cause. Both colts dominated the two-year-old division this season, and were projected to finish first and second respectively. Union Rags has the best opportunity to succeed, as the colts record was similar to Uncle Mo’s at this time last season.
