Field Set For Saturday’s Blue Grass Stakes

Track News

A field of nine horses will be set for the Grade One Blue Grass Stakes' 86th running this Saturday. Although horse-betting enthusiasts are not overwhelmed by the apparent lack of superstars at this year's race, the field is expected to be the most competitive in recent years at the Keeneland Race Course while the sportsbook play out in Augusta, Georgia.

Pleasant Prince will be the favorite after Keeneland line maker Mike Battaglia admitted that he struggled with picking the most likely to capture the first place finish, before deciding to give trainer Julien Leparoux's horse 3-1 odds.

Behind Pleasant Prince as far as sports betting favorites are Odysseus and both Akenite and Interactif. Odysseus will run from post one, with sports betting odds of 7-2, not far behind the favorite. Both Akenite and Interactif are horses belonging to owner Todd Pletcher, and because horse racing, betting rules state that any two horses entered in the same race while both belonging to the same owner must be given the same odds to win that race. Akenite and Interactif will both run as 4-1 favorites. Another of Pletcher's colts will be racing over the next month, including most notably Kentucky Derby favorite Eskendereya.

The biggest long shots in the nine-horse field will be Stately Victor and Codoy, who will both run with 30-1 odds. Stately Victor is trained by Mike Maker, and was not entered in to the field until late and almost wasn't part of this race.
